One-Session: Structure

This all-day workshop will focus on organizational principles at work in structuring a stage play. During this meeting we will take a close look at Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire and watch selections from the film version to better understand structure, character and exposition. Time permiting, we will look at other examples as well. In addition we will look at screenwriting principles as they might apply to writing for the stage along with the ways that various elements of playwriting craft (character, exposition, inciting incident, revelation, etc.) intersect with structure. Participants are encouraged to read the play ahead of the workshop. We will take a lunch break of approximately 45 minutes.
